Honda was working on a luxury sedan in 1981, looking to really cement its reputation in the American market. However, instead of making the sedan part of the Honda lineup, the company believed it could be successful with an entirely new luxury brand. Thus, Acura was born in 1984, and 60 dealerships opened a couple of years later. The brand was a massive success, leading to over 50,000 vehicles sold and opening 150 new dealerships in just one year after the brand was announced.

Due to the success of the Acura brand, competitors Toyota and Nissan soon followed suite, and introduced their own luxury lines. The success of Acura reigns supreme in the modern-day, as they continue to break barriers in the automotive industry. Where Do They Make Acura Vehicles?

Most of the vehicles in the Acura lineup such as the ILX, TLX, RDX, and MDX are built in North America, most notably in Ohio at their Marysville plant. There are three other locations throughout the state including Anna, Russells Point, and East Liberty, Ohio.
